The Olive Flash Damsel is a realistic stillwater lure created to imitate the natural appearance and movement of damselfly nymphs. Finished in natural olive tones with subtle blue holographic flash, this pattern mirrors the slim profile and undulating swim of a damsel as it moves through weed beds and open water. The olive body provides a life like base colour, while the flash rib adds just enough attraction to catch light without overpowering the presentation.

This fly is particularly effective during the peak damselfly period when trout patrol margins, dams, lakes and reservoirs searching for nymphs migrating toward the surface. Its soft marabou tail and balanced construction produce fluid movement on both slow retrieves and longer pulls. The Olive Flash Damsel works equally well as a close to the bank pattern or as a mid-water searching lure when trout are cruising and feeding confidently on natural food sources.

Please note all of our fishing flies are barbless unless otherwise stated.

How To Fish the Olive Flash Damsel

Slow Figure-of-Eight Retrieve

Cast toward weed lines or visible movement and allow the fly to sink to the feeding depth. Retrieve slowly with a consistent figure of eight motion to replicate the steady swimming action of a natural damselfly nymph. This presentation is especially productive in warmer conditions when trout move into the margins.

Intermediate Line Coverage

Use an intermediate line to maintain control through shallow to mid-depth zones. Vary the retrieve speed and introduce brief pauses to imitate the natural stop-start behaviour of a damsel nymph. Trout often take as the fly resumes movement.

Deep Sink and Draw

Allow the Olive Flash Damsel to sink along drop-offs or above submerged weed before retrieving with long, controlled strips. Each draw causes the materials to pulse naturally in the water, while the subtle flash enhances visibility for trout holding further out or slightly deeper in the water column.
