ABOUT MATCH THE HATCH

I’ve been fly fishing for nearly 30 years. Over that time, I’ve learned what really matters when it comes to flies: realism, durability and trust. Fish, especially wild fish, are quick to spot shortcuts and poor-quality flies rarely last long enough to justify their price. That experience is what led to the creation of Match the Hatch.

At Match the Hatch we aim to offer a wide range of river and stillwater flies that genuinely perform on the water. Every fly we sell is professionally tied to a consistently high standard using quality materials chosen for how they behave, not just how they look. Good materials create better imitations, float properly, fish longer and stand up to hard-fighting fish instead of falling apart after a few takes.

Our range is designed to make choosing the right flies simple and practical. Customers can shop by fly type (Dry Fishing Flies, Wet Fishing Flies, Nymphs, Streamers & Lures) or by species with dedicated collections for trout, grayling and sea trout. We also offer stillwater fishing flies, innovator imitations, monthly flies , selection packs, a bespoke service and flexible subscriptions: all developed to help anglers stay prepared throughout the season.

Our bespoke fly-tying service is for anglers looking for something more personal or highly specific. Whether it’s refining a proven pattern, recreating a favourite local fly, or developing a completely new design, we can work with customers to produce flies tailored to their exact requirements. Our team collaborates closely with our master tiers to ensure custom patterns maintain the same high standards of quality, balance and fishability as the rest of our range.

Hooks are just as important. A fly should be something you trust completely, not something you’re quietly worried about when a good fish takes. That’s why we focus on reliable hooks that stay sharp, resist rust and won’t let you down when it matters.

All of our flies are tied by master tiers in Kenya who are highly skilled professionals with decades of experience. Fly tying there is a respected craft, built on precision, consistency and pride in the finished fly. By working directly with these tiers we’re able to offer genuinely high-quality flies at prices that make sense.

We care deeply about the waters we fish. As admirers of Wildfish Conservation’s evidence-led campaigning, particularly their work on open-pen salmon farming and chalk stream restoration,  we’re committed to supporting their efforts as we grow. We believe the health of our rivers and stillwaters is fundamental to the future of fly fishing and the wider environment.

From day one, we wanted conservation to be part of our DNA. As Match the Hatch develops, we donate a proportion of our annual net profits directly to Wildfish, helping to support their vital work protecting wild fish and the waters they depend on.
