The Golden Olive Bumble wet fly belongs to the famous “Bumble” family of flies created by the legendary Irish angler and fly tyer Kingsmill Moore (1893–1979). Moore designed these patterns to be suggestive rather than exact copies of any single insect, giving them plenty of movement and presence in the water; qualities that still make them popular with modern river and lough anglers.
The Golden Olive version carries warm, natural tones that hint at olives, terrestrials or general surface activity depending on how it’s presented. It’s a particularly handy fly pattern when the water has a ripple, the wind is up, or trout are chasing just under the surface without fully committing to dry flies. With a fuller hackle and lively profile, it’s a dependable choice when you need to cover water and draw a reaction rather than match a precise hatch.
Please note all of our fishing flies are barbless unless otherwise stated.

Cast slightly across and downstream, then allow the fly to swing naturally under tension. The hackle pulses in the flow, giving a convincing impression of an insect trying to break free toward the surface.
On steadier runs, fish it upstream and allow it to travel naturally with minimal drag. The olive tones and soft movement often tempt fish feeding just beneath the film.
An excellent option on the top dropper of a traditional wet fly cast. A gentle lift or slow retrieve can make it skate lightly across the surface, imitating a struggling insect and encouraging confident takes.
