The Hopper Bibio Dry Fly is a highly effective terrestrial imitation designed to replicate the adult hawthorn fly, commonly known as the bibio. These dark insects appear in spring and are frequently blown onto rivers and lakes, where trout quickly recognise them as an easy surface food source. During strong falls, fish can become preoccupied with them and feed confidently at the top.

This hopper style pattern is tied to reflect the natural’s dark body, subtle red segment and extended legs. The buoyant wing structure keeps the fly riding clearly on the surface, while the overall silhouette closely resembles a stranded terrestrial. It is particularly productive on breezy days when wind pushes insects into margins, bays and surface lanes.

Although most effective during spring hawthorn activity, the Hopper Bibio can also serve as a general dark terrestrial pattern throughout the warmer months.

Please note all of our fishing flies are barbless unless otherwise stated.
