The Olive Epoxy Buzzer Nymph is a refined imitation of midge pupae, designed to match the natural colour changes that occur as chironomids move toward hatching. Buzzers begin life as bloodworms living deep within the soft sediment of lakes and reservoirs. As they mature, their strong red colouring fades and shifts into darker olive and muted tones, a stage that trout frequently key in on when feeding just below the surface.

As the pupa prepares to emerge, it travels slowly upward through the water column in a gentle, stop-start motion. It may pause and sink slightly before continuing its ascent, eventually hanging in the surface film before transforming into an adult midge. The slim olive body and epoxy finish help imitate this trapped-gas shine, making the pattern especially effective during steady buzzer hatches when fish are feeding confidently on rising insects.

How To Fish the Epoxy Buzzer Olive Nymph

Static or Suspended Presentation

Fish this buzzer on a floating or intermediate line with a long leader so it hangs naturally within the water column. Often the best approach is to keep movement to a minimum, allowing the fly to appear like a naturally rising pupa.

Washing Line Method

Position the olive buzzer on a dropper above a slightly heavier point fly. The point fly sets the depth while the buzzer remains suspended higher up, imitating an insect making its way toward the surface. A slow, steady figure-of-eight retrieve keeps everything balanced.

Lift and Fall Technique

Add occasional slow lifts during the retrieve to encourage the fly to rise gently. Pause between movements to let it sink back slightly, recreating the natural ascent behaviour of emerging buzzers and often prompting takes as the fly changes direction.
