The Epoxy Buzzer in black is a slim, realistic imitation of midge pupae, one of the most dependable food sources found in stillwaters. Buzzers, also known as Chironomidae, begin life as bloodworms living within the soft silt and mud on the lakebed. As they develop and prepare to hatch, their bright red colour fades and they take on a darker, more subdued appearance, closely matching the look of this fly pattern.

During the final stage of their lifecycle, these pupae rise slowly through the water column in a distinctive wriggling motion, pausing at intervals before drifting back down slightly and continuing their ascent. Once they reach the surface film, they hang briefly before emerging into adult midges. The smooth epoxy coating on this fly helps replicate the natural sheen of an ascending pupa, making it particularly effective when trout are feeding just below the surface during buzzer activity.

How To Fish the Epoxy Buzzer Black Nymph

Static or Suspended Presentation

Fish the buzzer on a floating or intermediate line with a longer leader, allowing it to sit naturally within the water column. Minimal movement is often key, as trout frequently take buzzers that appear almost motionless.

Washing Line Method

Position the buzzer on a dropper above a heavier point fly. The point fly helps control depth, while the buzzer hangs freely and imitates a rising pupa. A slow figure of eight retrieve keeps everything working without pulling the fly unnaturally.

Lift and Fall Technique

Introduce occasional gentle lifts during the retrieve to mimic a pupa moving toward the surface. Allow brief pauses so the fly sinks slightly before rising again, copying the natural stop-start ascent of emerging buzzers and often triggering takes.
