The Diawl Bach Red Neck Nymph is a proven stillwater nymph pattern based on the classic Welsh design known for its adaptability and consistent results. This version incorporates a bright red neck, creating a focused trigger point that can stimulate takes when trout are reluctant to commit to more understated flies.

Designed to imitate a broad range of aquatic food sources, including midge pupae and general subsurface larvae, the Diawl Bach Red Neck is a highly versatile addition to any fly selection. It performs equally well on large reservoirs, small lakes and dams, offering year-round effectiveness in a variety of still water conditions.

Please note all of our fishing flies are barbless unless otherwise stated.

Why Choose The Diawl Bach Red Neck Nymph

  • Visual Trigger Effect: The red head provides a subtle but effective hotspot, increasing visibility and encouraging instinctive strikes from trout.

  • Proven Heritage: Originating in Wales, the Diawl Bach has developed an international reputation as a dependable fish catching pattern.

  • Reliable Across Venues: From upland lakes to lowland reservoirs, this variation has built a strong track record wherever brown and rainbow trout are targeted.

Fishing Techniques For The Diawl Bach Red Neck Nymph

To maximise results with the Diawl Bach Red Neck, consider the following approaches:

  • Controlled Sink & Slow Retrieve: Allow the fly to descend to the feeding depth before retrieving slowly with a steady figure of eight motion. Always pause and let the fly hang briefly before lifting to recast, as takes frequently occur at this stage.

  • Multi-Fly Leader Setup: Fish it as part of a team of flies on a multi-dropper rig. It can be positioned on the top dropper as an attractor or on the point to lead the presentation.

Adjust to Fish Behaviour: In calm or pressured conditions, maintain a subtle retrieve. If trout are feeding aggressively, introduce short pulls movements to imitate an escaping pupa.
